Jimmy V

I'm watching a clip on ESPN for the Jimmy V Foundation and Jimmy V Week. His line "don't give up, don't ever give up" still brings a tear to my eye. Knowing that he fought for some many people knowing that he may never be cured is motivating. The V Foundation raised more than $90 Million for cancer research and their current push/promotion is that every dollar raised goes to fighting cancer. Every dollar earned is a dollar donated to cancer research, it's an amazing foundation for a truly motivating man.

Watching this clip from Jimmy V motivates me more to raise money to fight cancer. I'm signing up for the Livestrong Philly Challenge in August and I think I'll sign up for the Livestrong Team to run in the 2010 ING New York City Marathon.

Actually, I just registered for Livestrong Philly. I'm registered to do a 10k run and a 45 mile ride. I'm going with shorter distances in case I actually do the marathon so I can save my legs for the marathon 2 months later. Wish me luck and please donate to the right!

Kutcher and Social Media

Here's a pretty good article on Ashton Kutcher from Fast Company on how he's using social media. How there needs to be a way to monetize sites such as facebook and twitter. It's a good article around social media that's worth reading.

Made it back to the gym!

I made it back to the gym this morning. What I accomplished just dawned on me. I was able to leg press 8 plates on each side. That's 720 pounds! That's the first time probably since college that I did that!

Guess I'm not in as bad of shape as I thought. The real test will be if I make it to the gym tomorrow.

LiveSTRONG Philly Donation Page

Below is a link to the donation page for the LiveSTRONG Philly event that my friends Ken and Kelly are riding in with me.  The 100 mile bike ride is less than 3 months away...man I'm in trouble.  Definitely not prepared for this event.

Training Ride #2

Got in a second training ride yesterday. It wasn't as good as I hoped. Took me over an hour to go 15 miles. There was a loud squeeking coming from the bike's front tire. Now I have to get that fixed after just getting the bike as a whole fixed.

Felt good afterward. Looking forward to my next ride.

Week 4 of training

Week 4 of training isn't going as planned. Only went to the gym once this week. Haven't been on the bike in a longtime. Good thing that on Sunday the highway behind my apartment is closed to card so people can ride bikes.

I feel like I've put the 13 pounds I lost back on. Hopefully I can motivate to go when I get home before the wifey and I got see Angles & Demons.

Slacking

I just realized I'm slacking heavily in my training these last 2 weeks. After I realized how much weight I've lost, I've slipped heavily. Only went to the gym twice last week and didn't ride at all.

Sorry far this week I've only been to the gym once and still haven't been on the bike. I've got to get back into it today and this weekend!

I'm headed to atlanta next week so the gym is going to be tough to do.

There's an App for that

The motivation to re-ignite this blog was driven from an iPhone commercial. You know where they tell you there's an app for every thing. Including bird watching. Who would have thunk it.

This encouraged me to do some investigating. I came across ShoZu whereI could post to my blog. Limited by character counts though. I started thinking, "how many apps do I have and how many do I use?"

Answer: I have 30 apps and I probably use about 20. I have a whole screen dedicated to games. One for news (WSJ, nytimes, google which includes google news). A bunch for "productivity/social networking" which include 3 different twitted apps, ¹for myspace (why not?), shozu, colorsplash where I can make photos black and white with colorizing images, 2 video cams which required me to jailbreak my iphone, and one for adding picture messages part of the jailbreak. A Livestrong calorie counter, helped me lose 13lbs in 30 days.

Are these necessary though? Hell yeah!
